Gridcrawler Live 8-3-12 (Videos)

The August 3rd show was a lot of fun. I love Somewhere Else Tavern and it was a great place to try pullin' my shit off live for the first time. Not that there weren't a few issues, mind ya... We ran into an insane rain storm on the way to the club and when I got there, I discovered that another band had been added to the bill and I was supposed to have gone on stage 45 minutes earlier. Burley took pity on me though, and let me play anyway. (I had to squeeze my equipment into a corner of the stage, because the other band was already set up!) Also, the sound wasn't nearly loud enough, but I learned a valuable lesson. Never trust the sound guy to give you more volume. I'll crank it on my end next time. Believe that! Haha. I didn't get to give away promo cd's or even hang my fancy banner. Oh well... Next time. Still putting some finishing touches on the first Gridcrawler record. I really want the material to be songs, not just "tracks," so I'm taking my time with this one. In the meantime, here are a few clips from the August 3rd show. Thanks for checkin' em out and for just bein' you!

Gridcrawler Has Arrived!

Lots going on with my new Gridcrawler project. I have a Reverbnation page where you can stream a few of the new songs. And I'm performing some of the material live on Friday, August 3rd at the Somewhere Else Tavern in Greensboro. It will be my first time on stage in about 8 years, and my first time ever as a solo artist. Crazy nervous, but hella psyched about the new songs, so I'm looking forward to gettin' it on! I'm opening for my buddies in Archimedes' Revenge. They're a great progressive-metal group also from the Greensboro area. There will be other metal/punk bands on the bill and I am the only electronic musician, so I'm really gonna have to bring it. I don't wanna get tomatoes (or beer bottles) thrown at me. Haha.
I am putting the finishing touches on the first Gridcrawler record as well. It will be called Larvae and consists of a strange brew of electro, dubstep, witch-house, glitch, and noise. Sort of an electronic music pot-luck. Haha. I'll be giving away a few copies of a sampler cd with about half the songs from the new record on it at the show. Come on out if you're in the area!
I'll be posting the full Larvae record to my Mediafire account in August. It will be free for people who read this blog or like the Facebook page, etc. Ultimately, it will be posted on BandCamp and I might actually try to charge a buck or two for the record there. It would be a nice change to make a little loot off the music for once! At least enough for some tacos or somethin'...  Anyway, thanks for checking out the blog. The support is appreciated. Let's Play Silly You - VIDEO

Here's a video I put together for "Let's Play Silly You," from the Cannibal Hours album. Cannibal Hours is the second album released by The Paranoia Room, my experimental electronic-noise project. You can still download a copy of the album free from the Mediafire link: The Paranoia Room - Cannibal Hours The album is the 4th official release from the Subvert From Within label and mixes big beats, circuit-bent toys, bass, and abrasive electronic noise with lots of weird samples. You should download it NOW. Did I mention it's FREE? :-)

In other SFW news, I am finishing up work on the Eula Mae acoustic record, Centaur Songs, that I recorded last summer. It is unlike anything I have ever recorded and is a real labor of love. It basically started as a challenge to leave all my electronic tomfoolery aside and write "real" songs. I'm not sure if they can be considered real songs or not, but it is an interesting little listen that I hope someone out there will enjoy. There is also a good deal of material by The Paranoia Room laying around that I want to release this summer as well. The tentative title of that record is The Capitalists.

But, I am the most excited about the Gridcrawler project. I am working steadily on tracks for that record and am hoping to perform some of it live soon. Gridcrawler represents my immersion into EDM and laptop music. I love the energy of the new electronic music scene - dubstep, electro, witch-house, glitch, drum and bass...I'm lovin' it all. Gridcrawler is a combination of the elements from all those differing forms that appeal to me. The commonalities between the different forms, if you will. It is more structured and more well-produced than any of my past work, but it still bears the anarchic spirit that Subvert From Within Records is based around. I cannot wait to play the shit live!!!

As always, thanks to everyone who reads my corny little blog or downloads my weird little records. It is genuinely appreciated. I'll leave ya with this quote I found from Alan Moore (who I think is a genius!): "I don’t distinguish between magic and art. When I got into magic, I realised I had been doing it all along, ever since I wrote my first pathetic story or poem when I was twelve or whatever. This has all been my magic, my way of dealing with it."

The Paranoia Room - Cannibal Hours FREE DOWNLOAD

Trumpets please! Here is the 4th release from my DIY record label. Subvert From Within Records is proud to present, The Paranoia Room's 2010 recording, Cannibal Hours. Another eccentric mishmash of drum and bass, ambient noise, circuit-bending, and samples, a few songs from this were put out on Myspace, Reverbnation, etc. back in '10. But now, the entire album is presented in its entirety, along with the cover art and liner notes. Below is the Mediafire link where you can download this weird little beast of an album. Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone who downloaded the first 3 SFW Records releases. It is heartening to know that my strange little songs are finally getting heard by a few like-minded weirdos. (Which of course, I only mean in the most positive way.) Visit the Subvert From Within Records page on Facebook! Like us!!! (I can always use the confidence boost. Haha.)  Sincerely, Y'er Pal, Jabbo.

Here's the link... Get a copy today! All the cool kids are doing it.

There Isn't Anywhere (We Can't Find You) VIDEO

Here's another video from the rerelease of The Catbird album.  The song is called "There Isn't Anywhere (We Can't Find You)".  Full of circuit-bent toys, drum-machines, metal guitars, and all around zaniness.  Footage is all shot by me and edited in that Windows Live Movie Maker program.  Fun stuff.  For a FREE download of the entire album just visit the mediafire link.  Thanx!  -Jabbo

Video - "Slowly Losing Hope"

Here's a short video I made for the song "Slowly Losing Hope" from The Catbird.  The record was recorded in 2010 and I released most of the songs individually through MySpace and ReverbNation.  Maybe a dozen or so copies of the physical cd were ever made.  The Catbird was the second album I put out under the Eula Mae name and is one of the strangest things I have recorded to date.  I was heavily into circuit-bending at the time, so...   Finally, the record is being released as a whole.  The official 2012 version is the 3rd release from Subvert From Within Records and can be downloaded from Mediafire for free at this link: Eula Mae - The Catbird

Big thanks to all who have made contact and supported my efforts in any way.  Y'er awesome.  -Jabbo

Eula Mae - The Catbird album. Free download!

Here's the latest from Eula Mae. The Catbird is the 3rd official release from Subvert From Within Records.  I recorded this back in 2010.  I think I was still recording to cassette with the 4-track then.  I was also heavily into circuit-bending at the time.  Hence, the non-stop sound of toys going crazy in the background...  Most of the drums are from my old Alesis SR-16.  (Though I always called it Chatterboxxx. :-)  This is also around the time that the SP-808 came into my life.  Yep, a real sampler instead of tape loops.  Used the sampler with all the vocals.  In my typical fashion, the record is a hodgepodge of sounds and styles.  Post-metal guitars, old-school beats, and lots and lots of electronic noise.  You can download the album from Mediafire for FREE at this link. Eula Mae - The Catbird

Big thanks to everyone who has downloaded the first two SFW Records releases as well as everyone who has made contact or in some way been supportive.  Believe me, I can use all the support I can get.  Haha.  Peace.  -Jabbo

Videos: "Hum" & "Falling Snow"

Here's a couple of short videos I made for songs from the Party With Tina record.  (Available as a FREE Mediafire download. The Paranoia Room - Party With Tina)  I shot the footage and assembled these over the holiday break.  It's been fun learning to work with the video software, and creating visual imagery to accompany the songs has been an interesting process.

This is the video for "Hum".

And here's the video for "Falling Snow".

I was kinda annoyed recently to find another band on Youtube suddenly using the Paranoia Room name.  I've been recording under that moniker since 2004, so it kinda sucks to have someone else come along using it.  The other Paranoia Room is some sorta spanish-speaking garage band.  I'm not sure where they're from and I wish 'em all the best, but like I said, it's just sort of annoying to have someone else fucking with the name.  I had been planning on releasing all my new electronic stuff under the Gridcrawler name eventually anyway, but I guess I'll have to start sooner than I had anticipated.

As far as the Gridcrawler project, recent computer problems have brought all my new music composition to a screeching halt.  I'm hoping to get my computer issues resolved this week and get a new copy of FL Studio.  I'm gonna incorporate the Massive VST into my setup and see what I can do with that amazing little plugin.

Holiday vacations almost over, but it's been a lot of fun.  Now the countdown to summer break begins.  Haha.  Thanks for checking in and HAPPY NEW YEAR!
